Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular and represent a top choice for many shoppers between Jackson, WY and Bozeman, MT. However, not many drivers know a lot about EVs and why they should choose them over internal combustion engines. Our expert team will delve into some relevant and fun facts about electric cars.

While we have your attention, look over our new and pre-owned hybrid vehicles to find the one that fits your lifestyle. Our team is more than happy to answer your questions while going over some facts about electric cars.

The First EV Was Built in 1884

London innovator, Thomas Park, was in charge of the city’s overhead tramways electrification. He designed and built the electric vehicle to reduce low-efficient and environmentally friendly cars with his EC because they were fueled by high-capacity rechargeable batteries. Who knew that the first EV was an innovation more than 125 years ago? It’s one of the many interesting facts about electric cars.

EVs Include Cars, Transit Buses, Trucks & More!

Electric vehicles don’t just come in sedan and SUV body styles. You can spot electric buses, logistics vehicles on city routes, and heavy-duty zero-emissions trucks throughout the Butte, MT area. Electric trucks offer excellent economic savings as they’re cheaper to fuel and operate than diesel trucks. At some point, semi-trucks may become all-electric instead of running on diesel fuel.

Charge Your Vehicle at Home, Work or the Store

Many shoppers worry about buying plug-in hybrids because they don’t think there are enough charging stations. Did you know there are more than 52,000 charging stations in the United States? That number continues to climb every month!

Not only are there more charging stations popping up in our area, but you can turn your garage into an at-home charging station. You can also charge your vehicle at work, the grocery store, the mall, or any other major establishment that has an EV charging station. Having an EV doesn’t limit you to just charging your vehicle at home.

Worried about the cost of DC fast charging in public? Many automakers, including BMW, offer complimentary DC fast charging for two years with the purchase of a new vehicle that runs completely on electricity!

There Are Five Categories of Electric Vehicles

Most people know battery EVs, plugins, and hybrid vehicles. But did you know there are five categories of electric vehicles?

  1. Battery EVs run entirely on electric motors and batteries. They are recharged from a power grid, and their range is anywhere from 100 to 300 miles on a full charge. As more engineering and research occurs, the range will continue to grow!
  2. Plug-In Hybrids use rechargeable batteries, electric motors, and internal combustion engines. Their mileage range on the electric mode is 30-50 miles per charge. These vehicles are great for daily commutes because you can drive to and from work and then recharge overnight at home, saving your fuel costs.
  3. Hybrid EVs use small electric batteries and internal combustion engines. Their batteries are charged by engines or through regenerative braking, and there is no plugging in required.
  4. Extended-Range EVs that use rechargeable batteries and internal combustion engines. Their batteries are charged by engines or power grids.
  5. Neighborhood EVs use batteries that are recharged from a 120-volt grid. They can reach a maximum speed of 30 mph, making them great for commuters.
