BMW M4 Concept Unveiled in Monterrey

Although most eyes in the automotive world are focused toward the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, others, particularly the eyes of some BMW fans looked towards Mexico. After all, that's where the Bavarian automaker was set to preview the popular and powerful new M4 Concept.

If you're not familiar with the BMW "M" series, a little bit of background is in order. The M lineup, short for Motorsport, was originally intended as a racing nameplate. This was a big hit for the automaker in the 60s and 70s, and it only continued to grow, with higher and higher grade trim models. The M4 in particular is a high-performance coupe that promises to be the new golden child of the lineup.

Benchmark power, of course, will be this coupe's forte. Although we don't have any details on the engine just yet, the rumors floating around the blogosphere tell us that it is most likely a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six motor, offering anywhere between 400-450 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, and may not be until a production model is offered (more on that later).

The exterior design is a more aggressive iteration of the 4 Series styling, with that line's headlights and a gently curving roof. To us, it seems like every line of this concept evokes muscle by power of suggestion alone.

We'll likely see a production variant of the M4 at some point next year--most likely, we speculate, at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Keep tabs on the BMW of Idaho Falls blog for more word on that.
